چکیده

purpose : to offer a semi-automatic algorithm to determine the area of angiographic hyperfluorescence methods : the proposed algorithm included wavelet filter, histogram equalization and modified otsu thresholding. hyperfluorescent area of 30 angiographic images obtained from patients with leaking choroidal neovascularization (cnv) and diabetic retinopathy were evaluated and the results were compared with those obtained by an expert ophthalmologist. results : the best wavelet filter was determined. quantitative assessment of the hyperfluorescent area showed a mean error of 0.12±0.59 square millimeters. there was no significant difference between algorithm-measured and ophthalmologist-measured area. conclusion : the proposed algorithm may be used to accurately measure area of hyperfluorescence.      iranian journal of ophthalmology 201022(4):73-79 © 2010 by the iranian society of ophthalmology

Measurement of Choroidal Neovascular Area in Age-Related Macular Degeneration using Modified Otsu’s Thresholding Method

Introduction: Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is one of the most important causes of irreversible  blindness in the developed world and  prevents the affected  person from  performing simple tasks such  as  reading,  driving  and  facial  recognition.  In  the  AMD,  new  blood  vessels  grow  underneath  the  retina  in  a  process  called  choroidal  neovascularisation  (CNV).  There  ...

Fundus photography and fluorescein angiography Fluorescein angiography

Fluorescein angiography is a clinical diagnostic test procedure in which rapid-sequence photography is performed after intravenous injection of sodium fluorescein. The procedure allows the documentation of the retinal circulation. Of equal importance is the ability of the angiogram to outline the entire retinal vascular bed. Previous clinical methods of examination of the fundus enabled the phy...

both the computational and the medical side of these concerns began to develop mutual interests and approaches, and to form coherent col-laborative research [1]. One of the first uses of artificial intelligence (AI) on a practical level was the coupling of expert medical knowledge with computer-based technology. As early as the 1960s, computer scientists and physicians recognized the possibilit...

Fluorescein Angiography Authors:

Introduction Fluorescein angiography (FA) was introduced in ophthalmology by Novotny and Alvis in the sixties of the last century. They took serial fundus photographs after intravenous injection of sodium fluorescein to study the retinal and choroidal circulation(1). Initially, they used this technique in diabetic and hypertensive patients and after, the technique was used in age-related macula...

The Cellular Basis for Biocide-Induced Fluorescein Hyperfluorescence in Mammalian Cell Culture

Clinical examination of the ocular surface is commonly carried out after application of sodium fluorescein in both veterinary and medical practice by assessing the resulting 'staining'. Although localized intensely stained regions of the cornea frequently occur after exposure to 'adverse' clinical stimuli, the cell biology underlying this staining is unknown, including whether intense fluoresce...
